The gold armbands tell the viewer that people of the time wore some very expensive items. These arm bands are pure gold and had to be held up by clothing which makes them a little impractical. When looking at this in regards to poverty it shows that some people did not have an issue with money as they could easily afford them. If a ruler or someone from a royle family wore these we can assume gold was for the rich and that normal people of the society did not get to wear these.
