Gupta Map and Art
To analyze the first block of three source articles on the Gupta period art, I used voyant to see what the most common words were when describing the art in the Gupta Empire. Some common words that were included in the articles from source 1, 3, and 5 were architecture, hindu, temple, cave, style, and ancient.
While reading the articles in depth, I can see how these words relate to one another. For example, in the article, Gupta Empire Art and Architecture, it talks about hinduism, which is the Guptan kings were in the Hindu faith but also many artist and archtecutures were Hindus. It also talks about how their culture started making their temples differently with other syles, materials, and decorative techniques.
Moving on, an important point that Robert Brown, the author of "Guptan Period Art" makes about the accomplishments in that time was that not only artistic accomplishments were made, like using stone and making the great Hindu temples, but the compositions of both plays and poetry were honored greatly and considered great accomplishments. This lead to many more acomplishments in the theater world.
The article, Gupta Architecture, talks about how the hindu temples started to have statues on specific gods so people could worship them. Instead of a statue, sometimes they had physical remains or objects, which is a relic, from a significant figure in the Hindu faith for people to worship. This shows that they used new aspects and objects on temples for change.
