Student will create an account with hypothes.is using the name they go by in our course.
Student created two annotations in hypothes.is .
Annotations explained something about the source, asked relevant questions, or provided historical context.
Student joined the group in hypothes.is and made sure all their annotations are submitted to the group, not the pubic.
Student tagged their annotations with metadata.
Student responded to another student’s annotations.
When you write yourself a little note on the side of a book you are reading, that’s an annotation. To annotate is to add a note to a source. We can now do this collectively in a digital environment, which allows us to learn together in ways that traditional reading separately does not.
Our work this week will focus on analysis of sources all together. Annotation is writing on a source itself. To do this we are going to use a new tool, called hypothes.is . Please create an account at https://web.hypothes.is/
Please give your account the name you use in class. Only classmates will be able to see your work for this assignment.
The entire project is found here: http://www.cresquesproject.net/catalan-atlas-legends#
We will annotate panels 3, 4, 5 and 6.
While we will be annotating as a group, I am going to use a feature of hypothes.is called “groups” to keep our annotations private.
Use this link to join our group: https://hypothes.is/groups/Wa8gkNn1/1101-online-fall–2019
You must join our group and post your comments to our group to receive credit for this assignment.
You can access groups by clicking on the “<” button in the upper right hand side of your screen.
Once you are logged in to hypothes.is, you can add annotations to any web page. Access our web page for the week by going to: https://via.hypothes.is/http://www.cresquesproject.net/ and clicking on “Catalan Atlas Legends.”
For this assignment, I’m asking you to do two annotations.
You can put two annotations on a single panel, or one annotation on two different panels.
To annotate, click on the note icon in the upper right hand side of your panel.
Your annotations should relate something we’ve read for this week or previous weeks to this map. The Mongols, Mansa Musa, and the Plague all influenced this map in some way.
Your annotations should be 3–5 sentences that add context, further an explanation, ask a wider question, or respond to someone else’s annotations.
Please post one original annotation and respond to one other student’s annotation.
Double check that all your annotations have been saved to the Normandale 1102 Online group (I can’t give you credit if I can’t see your work).
Please tag your annotations with what you feel are appropriate metadata tags. You may wish to review your work on metadata to remind yourself of metadata standards.
