This jug demonstrates the poverty during the Hellenistic period because of its simplicity and dullness. There is nothing drawn on the jug and the material is cheap. This demonstrates poverty because other jugs/vases from the time period are all decorated and still look fancy, despite the fact that they are thousands of years old already. This shows the different classes in their society, even though it is just a jug; higher classes had fancy jugs while lower classes had plain, simple jugs.</text>

In the Hellenistic period, the minority they had previously held was growing. They were now athletes and entertainers, but they were also slaves. Slaves live in poverty, and there is no way to know if this was modeled after a slave or an athlete, but I can tell you that both Greeks and Non-Greeks were used as slaves and soldiers. This sculpture displays a old nurse holding a small baby. When it states, "the child-holding nurse was a common character", I think of how the nurse could have been a maid and took care of the baby. This makes me think of the aspect of slavery and how little they got paid and how most lived in poverty. Although the lady is a nurse, she is old as it states. The fact that she is old and still working may be because she needs money to keep living. </text>

Although there could be a variety of reasons as to why this jug does not have the decorative figure (such as it being dropped or some other form of accident), it is possible that this jug never was created with an ornate figurine. If this reasoning is true, it might actually indicate that the owner of this jug may come from a lower level of wealth because they did not have the resources to buy a jug with an ornate figurine. On the other side, it may also be that the owner saw no use in the figurine and simply pursued a jug for its functionality versus its aesthetic. Overall, what this artifact does indicate is that because it was common for citizens to have ornate figures on their day-to-day objects, it is strange that such a figure does not appear on this object.</text>

This Gold ring was made out of solid gold and cabochon garnets. This piece of art relates to the term "Poverty" because if you had money or was a wealthy citizen this would be an item you would buy and then like to show off. Hence it was a pretty expensive piece of jewelry. This could've also been an item that could've been transferred in a family from generation to generation. A lot of the jewelry was passed down through family and generations at the time.</text>

This is connected with poverty because it shows who was wealthy and who was not. This particular vessels definitely looked expensive and only the rich were able to afford it. This also relates to poverty because it is very likely that the lower class created these vessels so that the rich would be able to enjoy any drink that was given to them in a beautiful flask. I am very interested to see how this flask was made, how long it took and how much effort was put into only one of these flasks. </text>

This sculpture was formed out of terracotta which is not an expensive product in art. This means that whomever created this product was lower socioeconomic to middle socioeconomic class. In addition, this sculpture depicts a girl playing with a ball. From this sculpture, this girl seems to be in poverty through her clothing and lack of jewelry. Also, I like this sculpture because of its simplicity that even when an individual is in poverty, the individual can still be happy with whatever the individual has. </text>

The vase is made of terracotta, and terracotta is a cheap material to use in art. As a result, this shows that this vase probably belonged to someone in the middle-class or in poverty. This vase was used as a votive offering for religious purposes. This suggests that even though people in poverty were scarce of resources, they still went out of there way to sacrifice their resources in order to give praise and honor to their religion. This also indicates that religion was important to people in poverty.</text>
