The pieces of ancient art I decided to choose are terracotta jars, crafted by Greek painters. Painted on to the jars are Ethiopian people who were observed and painted in 530-500 B.C. These pieces of art give us great insight to what it was like to be alive in the Archaic period. On one of the jars, we see three Ethiopian people wearing large cloak-like garb. On the other jar two men are dressed in warrior garb with that being a helmet and a loincloth, while the woman depicted is wearing cloak-garb, similar to the subjects painted on the other jar. This shows the type of clothing worn by natives of the time that must have fit their climate and culture. On the other side of the jar, are three warriors holding weapons, the soldiers painted here were battling in the Trojan war. On the other jar we see dead warriors slain during the Trojan war, being carried off the battlefield. This shows that there was constant conflict, and the Ethiopian people were often subjected to danger, allowing for a not so subtle life. Also this shows that preserving the dead mattered in their culture.
