This makes her seem empowered and comments on the rights that women gained during the Hellenistic period. There status was changing as public realms and societal norms fluctuate. This woman doesn’t seem to be royalty and she looks very well off with nice clothing and a cloak. This image doesn’t convey a sense of poverty in my eyes. If this woman is in the middle class that suggests that the majority of people in these civilizations had enough money to put food on the table and clothing on their back.

A Bronze Torso from an Equestrian Statue Wearing Cuirass- Hellenistic Period (200 BC- 200 AD).

This Bronze armor could have been worn by a military officer in the Hellenistic Period (200 BC- 200 AD). This cuirass was normally worn by higher class people living in Greece. Artisans, who were likely lived in poverty, would have most likely made the cuirass for military officers at that time. At times these military officers were given land that was owned by the poor. The laborers who crafted the cuirass for the wealthy soldiers had to work under very difficult working conditions.

When looking at the pottery you can see humans fighting in a war. These people must have been in service to higher powers. This warrior class must have been taken from their families to fight wars that they may never return from. This will affect the income of the families these men were taken from. With wars the conquerors take away belongings of those they conquered which would assure that there would be a class with much less and most likely living in poverty. </text>

The two items I choose tell and show us how the sculptures were made in the Hellenistic period. They both show how they were dressed with robe like clothing and very loose clothing. From the readings we read this week it talked about how the sculptures were all dressed with loose clothing which proves my point in the pictures. This shows us how the people of this period had a strict dressing option for clothes and how they always choose to wear loose clothing. When you also look closely at the two objects you can see a lot of emotion which also tells us how the creators were so precise in making these sculptures. The big picture is that these objects were two big pieces in history because they show and tell us how they were made, we can learn so much from just looking at them. My learning objective is to understand a little more about how they made them so precisely.</text>

<text>I chose to add the “Shard with Three Goddesses” and the “Standing Female Deity” to my collection. While there isn’t really an in-depth description for the “Shard with Three Goddesses,” there is one for the “Standing Female Deity.” According to The Met Museum, the “Standing Female Deity” was a small depiction of a goddess that were “likely used for personal devotion” (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The statue appears to have flowers that surround her head, which is also similar with the “Shard with Three Goddesses.” Both statues were made with Terracotta, though the female deity one also had “black oxidation patina” (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The use of the Terracotta to produce both of these sculptures also shows the prevalence of this medium during the 3rd and 2nd Centuries B.C. In my opinion, both sculptures show how important to goddesses were to the Indian culture. The “Standing Female Deity” was mass produced for people to use in everyday worship and while we don’t know exactly what the shard (as part of a larger piece) was used for, it’s I think it’s likely that it was used to decorate homes and possible religious worship. </text>
