Learning Goals

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of historical thinking concepts, including sourcing, contextualization, corroboration, and close reading.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the definitions of "primary sources" and "secondary sources" as used in history.
  3. Analyze a secondary source using the "Historical Thinking Chart"


After reading all your sources for Week 3, answer the following questions in complete sentences. If you use any words that are not your own, be sure to put them in quotation marks and cite where you found the words.

  1. What is a specific example of a historical primary source?
  2. What is a specific example of a historical secondary source?
  3. What explanation does the National Council on History give why history
    keeps changing?
  4. Chose three questions from the historical thinking chart (1st ) and answer those questions for your final reading "Sacred Flows.” in Rivers: A Very Short Introduction
  5. ONLINE ONLY students (Section 02)- Run a SIFT analysis on "Sacred Flows." In 2-3 sentences, what does your SIFT analysis tell you.

Grading Criteria

Questions 1 and 2 receive 2 points each and questions 3 and 4 receive 3 points each for 10 points total.
