Research Report Requirements
For your semester project, you will complete a research report based on your chosen topic. The details for the project are here: https://jacknorton.org/1-current_courses/world-history-1-projects-choose-your-own-adventure/
Each semester project has slightly different criteria, so please double check the requirements for your specific project. Below are the common requirements.
[] Ten sources or more sources, with a minimum of five primary and five secondary, all from high quality publications.
[] Five case studies. A case study is a geographic area and a period that relates to your semester project. For example, the novel group might address a 100 years period, but the disaster response group would only look at the immediate 1-10 years after a disaster. The Song dynasty (South China), 420–479 would be a geographic area and period. I encourage you to use sources you’ve already used for other projects and to use this timeline.
[] No mythical, magical, divine, or metaphysical explanations for historical events.
[] Your case studies are mini-arguments: why would this region (and or period) be ideal for your project? Reference specific sources in your arguments.
[] Five historical skills (GIS maps, object analysis, historical statistics, metadata, and distant reading) should be included in your report, but you do not need to include all the skills in each case study.
[] Your group must meet twice synchronously and record your meetings in the report-back form (see Weeks 15 and 16).
[] Your final report can be in any format your wish (MS Word, a web page, a slide deck, or StoryMap) but all contributions to the project should be clear.
[] The project manager will act as the final editor, in addition to supporting your ongoing work.
